GOOLGOWI
Goolgowi is one those
places, although on a main highway is remote. Relatively close to
Griffith, but a long distance to another major centre. That said
refreshment at the Royal Mail may beckon.
Goolgowi had a
population of 287 people. The town is known for a experiencing one of
Australia's fiercest hail storms. Hailstones as large as a midi of
beer. There is a bit more history and this plaque awaits you.
Goolgowi Post Office
opened on 12 October 1925.
The town water is
supplied via a bore and there is a separate non potable water supply
to each household. It has a primary school and a 25-metre (27 yd)
public swimming pool. General store, 2 Service Stations, Club, Hotel,
2 Motels, several Mechanic workshops and an Engineering Business.
The horse racing
trainer, TJ Smith was raised in Goolgowi.
There are two churches
in Goolgowi.
Given the size of
Goolgowi the War Memorial is a worthy acknowledgement.
Not the sort of place
to stop at but if the timing is right a refreshment or coffee is on
offer.
