GIN GIN
Gin Gin is another great small
Queensland town. Not that long back Gin Gin was voted Queensland’s
most friendly town. A few moments strolling the streets of Gin Gin
bear testament to that quality. The traveler driving north along the
Bruce Hgy will pass through Gin Gin heading to Rockhampton. In fact
the town owes its existence to its strategic
location about halfway between Brisbane and Rockhampton. It is often
used as a stop-over point for drivers travelling between these two
centres.
The name Gin Gin was derived from the original station
name, which used a local Aboriginal word indicating "red soil thick
scrub
The Gin Gin district was
originally settled in 1847 when Gregory Blaxland and William Forster
moved into the area with sheep and cattle.
Gin Gin, like Bundaberg, is
heavily dependent on the sugar industry. Cattle production also
features prominently.
When passing through the
drive quickly notes the wide roads when passing through the town.
Gin Gin has all of the
traditional churches in semi modern buildings.

The Gin Gin Museum is
administered by the local heritage society.
The Gin Gin War Memorial
has fantastic profile on the southern entrance to the town.
The two hotels make strong
brand statements and are great profile pubs.
The traveler will enjoy an
hour or so at a minimum, and a stopover may have appeal.
