THE KEPPEL COAST
Great Keppel Island is a must visit
for those that travel to this area. A tourist Island that has day
trippers over for 5/6 hours. Bustout did this trip earlier and loved
the day.
Yeppoon, Emu Bay and Rosslyn Bay along
with the islands form what is now the Keppel Coast. In time this
region may equal that of the Airlie Beach area. Not the Whitsunday's.
The beaches are safe; the level of
services and the fun atmosphere about the place is infectious.
Yeppoon is the major town
along the tourist strip of the Keppel Coast, and is 40 km from its
nearest regional centre, the city of Rockhampton. Long stretches of
beaches are the main tourist attraction ,
while the islands of the Keppel Group, in particular Great Keppel
Island
are another draw card. The Rosslyn Bay boat harbour caters for
professional and privately owned vessels and was once the centre of a
thriving commercial fishing industry.
Just 20 years ago the Japanese were buying large tracks of land in the
area.
Yeppoon has the 3rd highest population expansion rate
in Australia, and has undergone a very large expansion in recent
years.
The Museum is at Emu Bay.
The Churches also are at Emu Bay.
The War Memorial is located in downtown Yeppoon.
The Hotels are in Yeppoon.
Rosslyn Bay is where the boats depart for Great
Keppel.
This is a great area to have a
holiday, so allow a few days to soak up the warm sun.
