MILLMERRAN
When traveling east from Goondiwindi
towards Toowoomba two towns of substance are passed through. The first
of these is Millmerran.
Millmerran is a really nice place and
community pride is on display throughout the place, not the least via
the building mural program. The town’s history is on display for all
to enjoy.
The Millmerran area began in 1841 when
the Gore brothers established the vast Yandilla Station. Yandilla
Station covered an estimated 1,000 square miles and hosted its own
school with 20 to 30 students, telegraph station and store.
Millmerran was elevated to the status
of town and the name changed to Domville, on 1 June 1889.The name was
later changed to Millmerran on 16 November 1894. And is just beginning
to show the signs of being a Toowoomba commute satellite.
The Millmerran Museum, for the
traveler is a visit of necessitity to acquire a full appreciation of
what the town has to offer. An hour or so well spent gives a great
insight to Millmerran's history.
The Millmerran Churches are design and
structures of substance.
Be sure to stop off at old historic church 10k out
heading east. A rare traditional now in Qld.
The Millmerran Hotel is surviving host
and visitor establishment.
The war Memorial is a fitting
acknowledgment for Millmerran.
For the cruiser an overnight stay
should be a serious consideration. This is a great small town.
