RAINBOW BEACH
To get to Fraser Island one of the
launch locations is Rainbow Beach. So named because of the varied
coloured sand cliffs that are a part of the beach physical
environment.
Much of the sand colors stem from the rich content of
minerals in the sand, such as rutile, ilmenite, zircon and monazite. A
black dune of ilmenite sands, overgrown by dune vegetation can be
found north west of the main town and offers a secret place of beauty
for the nature enthusiast.
Historically Rainbow Beach was a
fishing village, but now its fortunes are 80% tied to the Fraser
Island tourists and people from the south escaping the cool, cold and
wet winters. Tourism is the go industry.
Rainbow Beach has a War Memorial that
overlooks the beach.
The Rainbow Beach Hotel was
established in 1958.
Given Rainbow Beach is a new community
the churches are of modern design.
Rainbow Beach is known for its
sunsets.
This s is a great spot and deserves a
two night stay over, inc a visit to Fraser Island at a minimum.
