NUNGARIN
Nungarin is the first of the small
towns on Wheatbelt Loop road heading to Northam from Merridan.
Nungarin services a rich wheat production area. Of recent times from
an economic perspective the town is struggling.
In
October 1910, 1,486 acres (6.01 km2) at Avon Location 14227
and 14230 were set aside as a townsite reserve along the Dowerin to
Merredin railway. The townsite itself was gazetted in 1912.
The
Military Museum is the main reason to visit Nungarin and is open most
times.
The Nungarin Hotel is over 100 years
old and is a great classic pub.
The Nungarin War Memorial an
appropriate acknowledgment.
The Nungarin Catholic
and Anglican Churches
are modest and mid century buildings.
If the timing is right refreshment at
the hotel may be in order. A diversion to the Wheatbelt loop is not
necessary.
