CLINTON
Clinton is a small town midway between
Balclutha and Gore. Clinton is also the junction of an alternative
route for Invercargill travelers to bypass Gore. Clinton is a very
small place but that said met the synopsis criteria. But Clinton
refuses to be a two horse town, and they got over that by a three
horse display.
Clinton was named for Henry Pelham-Clinton, 5th Duke
of Newcastle, and former British Secretary of State for the Colonies.
Clinton has two churches. One of which the Anglican,
is
also a wine tasting congregational event for ‘services’
The War Memorial is located on the main road, and for
such a small town quite a number of young people lost their lives in
battle.
The Clinton Hotel is vintage for the era of
construction.
