Fairlie is the last major centre before heading into the high plains the lakes and most importantly Mount Cook. Fairlie is a nice town that has all of the important services and along with the traveling tourist provides to the local community. Fairlie is a ‘with it’ town

The following is edited from the Mount Cook Mackenzie website.

‘So Fairlie is the eastern gateway to the Mackenzie Country and provide the traveler with a contrast from its rich, green rolling hills and pastures as they respectfully submit to the grand, open, shimmering upland. More on that soon.

Fairlie has boating and fishing in the rivers and on Lake Opuha, hunting and hiking in the hills, golf on the 18 hole course and in winter, great skiing and fun at Mount Dobson.

Investigate intriguing history at the Fairlie museum and at Mabel Binney Cottage or visit one of the many local art galleries.’

Fairlie has the classic ‘Grand’ hotel that begs indulgence and the traditional Fairlie Hotel.

The mainstream churches are all represented at Fairlie.

The Fairlie War Memorial has good prominence on the main thoroughfare.
