HAAST
Haast is a conundrum. There is Haast Beach that there is no easy access, Haast Junction and then there is the Haast Township at which there are none of the usual social amenities. Haast is a new town that is split and to that end what you see is what you will get.
The town is named after Julius von Haast
Lake Moeraki is 30 km to the north-east, and the Haast Pass is 63 km to the south-east by road. State Highway 6 passes just to the east of the township
As it turns out a hotel of some substance is in Haast. We missed it????
But there was Jackson Bay, the nearby lakes and the Haast Pass highway that had something to offer.
No Hotels (that we could see), no churches, no War Memorials and no Museums.
But there is Jackson Bay. The end of the road driving south. No reference to a 'no exit' though, but the easy drive is recommended.
