LITTLE RIVER
Little River is a small town on the
Christchurch Akaroa road. Little River is a very small town, but is
clearly a progressive community.
Little River meets the synopsis
criteria.
The population early last
century numbered in the thousands, and people were mainly employed in
timber milling and farming.
Today the population of the
area is approx, a thousand people, with many people moving into the
area seeking a more country / rural lifestyle.
There has been a country store beside
the Little River railway station since the 19th century and serves as
a sort of museum.
There is the classic Catholic church
in Little River.
The War Memorial which clearly
indicates a very participative community at the turn of the century.
Owing to Maori requirements the
Little River Hotel has been moved 1 km west from the hotels original
location.
The coffee is recommended and the
train carriage at a minimum is with a look over.
