MILFORD SOUND
Milford Sound is the most popular of
the ‘sounds’ to be visited. This place is truly unique and iconic. In
truth Milford Sound is a fjord but too much time has elapsed to
consider making the name change.
The beauty of the Milford Sound landscape draws thousands of visitors
each day, with over 550,000 in total per year. This makes the sound
one of New Zealand's most-visited tourist spots, and also the most
famous New Zealand tourist destination, even with its remote location
and the long journey from the nearest population centres.
The drive to Milford Sound is one of
those memorable trips that from time to time on e will take. Just
about every 20 minutes or so the traveler is confronted with something
quite magnificent from a scenery perspective.    
Once at the sound the obligatory boat
trip is a must for all visitors.

tourist destination
Milford Sound is named after Milford Haven Wales, while the Cleddau
River which flows into the sound is also named for its Welsh namesake
