TAUPO
Taupo is now seen as one of New Zealand’s most progressive and
innovative communities. Taupo will most likely be New Zealand’s next
city.
Taupo is located
at the outlet of Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake. The river
flows over one of New Zealand's most spectacular waterfalls, the Huka
Falls.
Taupo is a
centre of volcanic and geothermal activity and hot springs suitable
for bathing are located at several places in the vicinity.
Taupo serves a rich rural community, but increasingly its future is
tied to tourism. Taupo is able to serve the mountain lovers, the trout
lovers the adventure lovers plus the Rotorua market.
Taupo is a young town and there are no ‘old’ buildings that have
heritage status, with exception of the now Hilton Hotel.
Taupo also boasts four golf clubs, plenty of shops, cafes and bars.
This place has it all.
The small but
growing satellite town of Kinloch, where a Jack Nicklaus golf resort
is being constructed, is 20 kilometres west along the lake.
To support this level of tourism there is a 3km stretch of road with
just motels.
In 2009 a team of Taupo citizens won the TV2 programme Top Town.
Taupo’s Museum is open seven days and located in the towns business
area.
The War Memorial is located at Taupo’s administration and information
centre.
St
Andrews Anglican church represents the 'newness' of Taupo.
