WHAKAPAPA

Whakapapa also does not qualify, but because the Chateau and Mount Ruapehu feature so strongly in the area a review is deemed essential.

Whakapapa is the Auckland side of the mountain and northern and largest ski field on the mountain.

Whakapapa is the town, the Chateau the ski field, parks and golf course. To go to the mountain Whakapapa is the gate keeper town.

Whakapapa at the foot of Mount Ruapehu is a snow sports hot spot but it’s not just about skiing and snowboarding here. With the renowned Tongariro Alpine Crossing and many other interesting walks, great mountain bike tracks and many exciting sport options, this is an outdoor adventure playground and an all-year destination.

There is plenty of history and indigenous culture to be discovered in this area too, as the Tongariro National Park is of great significance to the local Maori. So come to visit and discover this special part of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

This a fantastic place to visit. If you can manage the weather to a point ‘good’ stay a week. Like Mount Cook, there is so much to absorb and enjoy. For us the weather was closed in.
