Week Forty One

Our big highlight this week was Cooktown. So named because in November 1770, Captain Cook and the Endeavour, ran aground at the spot where the Town Ship now stands. Everything in Cooktown is about Cook. Numerous museums, street names, parks and also at Cooktown there is Mount Cook. Nothing like the NZ version, but still a testing walk/climb. We climbed the first 100 mtres of its 430 mtre height.

The road to Cooktown also had highlights. This magnificently engineered highway with three lookouts, including the Black Mountain. A turnoff midway on this highway is the road to Bamaga. Our recently visited ‘the tip’ town. Just 50 mtres later we were turning around.

Here are some photos of Cooktown and the highway shots.

Until next week and cheers
